Guide to Fitting Venetian Blinds

If you’re looking to give your room some shade and privacy, Venetian blinds are a great way to do this. As well as this, Venetian blinds are relatively easy to install. The process of installing is very straight forward, and anyone can undertake it and successfully have them in place in a short period of time. All you need to begin the process is to measure your blinds and decide on the mounting style you want. However, there are certain basic tools that you will need to complete the job and for safety reasons. The tools include drill, ladder, pencil, safety glasses, ruler, spirit level and tape measure. Once you have all these in place, you’re ready to delve in the process of fitting your blinds. Here’s a step-by-step guide to follow:

Step # 1: Measure your window cavity

It’s important for you to know the size of the area that you are covering with the Venetian blind. As such, taking the measurements of the window cavity is vital at this stage. You have the option of buying standard size Venetian blinds or you can place an order for those that are made to measure. However, when you are taking the measurements of the window cavity you will need to allow for a few centimetres of clearance on both sides of the blind.

Step # 2: Mount the brackets for your Venetian blinds

On either side of the cavity of your window, select a given point. These points are where the blind brackets will go. As you select these points, ensure that you’ve slightly set them back from the glass of the window to give room for the blind to smoothly run when the blinds are going up or down. The brackets are also used as the template for marking the screw holes. Once you’ve selected the points, drill the holes and then screw the brackets into place. If your window cavity is wide, there should be a solution to find a way of supporting the weight of the blind from the middle. You can do this by including a bracket at the middle of the window cavity. Otherwise, there’s the likelihood that there’ll be too much weight in the middle which is an undesirable thing to have on your Venetian blinds.

Step # 3: The installation of the Venetian Blind

In the third and final step of this guide, the actual installation of the blinds is done. To do this, slot in your Venetian blinds after opening the catches attached to the brackets. Once you do this, the next thing is to then lock the catches in order to have the blinds properly secured in place. To guarantee that your Venetian blind can run in a smooth manner, release the blind’s sash cord and observe how it moves. As you finish, install a cleat, this provides you with a place to tie the sash cord up so that it can stay out of the way of young children.
